Everything is symbolic. The real is actually very scarce. There’s starting points that help escape from reality.
If by reality we mean the Milan that we all know, the studio was out of that dynamic, that kind of approach to art. If someone came into my studio he wouldn't find a sterile space, a space deprived of its own initiative.
It was very alive, very baroque, layered, very full, full of mistakes. In a city like Milan all of this was not possible. That was the real, and the real was left out the door.

È tutto simbolico. Di reale c’è poco, ci sono spunti per uscire fuori dalla realtà, quello sì.
Se per realtà si può intendere quella Milano che tutti conosciamo, lo studio era fuori da queste dinamiche, da quella tipologia di approccio all’arte. Se uno entrava nel mio studio non trovava uno spazio asettico, non trovava un luogo privo di iniziativa propria. Era molto vivo, molto barocco, molto stratificato, molto pieno, molto pieno di errori. In una città come Milano non era possibile tutto ciò. Quello era il reale, e il reale stava fuori dalla porta.
